Earths Laughs ❁

Ever since I was 15 I've loved flowers. Everything about them.

I worked in a couple floral shops when I was young but have since moved onto other things.

But every once in a while I get an itch to arrange, even though my skills are rather rusty.

With my wedding coming in a few months I've decided to try and start regularly arranging flowers until my wedding in hopes of getting my edge back. Then maybe I can do my own centerpieces for my reception.

But what's the fun of having beautiful flowers if you don't share them.

I read a quote recently that said "Earth laughs in flowers."

So I've decided to start a 'segment' or something like that by sharing photos of my arrangements called Earths Laughs. Here's what I arranged for the first one...

So here's to the beginning of my flower journey. I don't know how often I'll be doing these but hopefully often. We'll see.

Hope you enjoy.

Till next time!

Cheers to a New Year

Happy New Year folks!

Can you believe it's already almost half way through January!? I can't.

As cliche as it sounds a new year can mean new beginnings. At least for me it has!

New Year.
New Hair color.
New Apartment.
New Job.
New Husband (eventually).

But luckily one thing that has stayed the same is my support system. Which was a jolting reality soon after New Years Eve.

You see, long story short, Mitch and I had an interesting and awful New Years Eve. I won't get into it but that is what prompted our change of apartments. Both of our families were beyond supportive in the aftermath and I'm not sure we could thank them enough.

So now to the point of this whole post, 5 things you should keep in mind in 2014:

1. Don't waste your time on negative people. If they aren't doing something positive in your life get rid of them. I know it can be hard but speaking from years of experience of only keeping positive people in my life it's totally worth it.

2. It's easier to have a positive attitude if you're honestly grateful for what you have. Whatever you need to do to remind yourself of how good you have it, do it.

3. Sometimes less is more. Keeping a simplistic mindset can not only be less stressful but it can also keep doors open for new adventures. And who doesn't want to have an adventure...?

4. Try not to overindulge. Honestly this one is mostly a reminder for myself... whoops! Moderation is key when it comes to almost anything - food, TV, shopping, drinks, pinterest...

5. Think of yourself first. Do things with passion. Love, be kind, have sparkle, and don't lose the idea of 'new year new start'. It doesn't need to be the new year to make a new start.

Till next time!

DIY Rose Water Facial

Here's a fun one for you all that I found trolling around the internet the other day.

Rose water facials are a great way to soften and tone your skin. You can make it a treat or a regular part of your beauty routine.

Here's what you do:

1) Get a dozen roses (preferably red or pink) and take all of the petals off. Here's the correct way:

2) Rinse the rose petals real good

3) Put the petals in a big 'ol pot and put enough water in it just to cover the petals

4) Simmer the petals for about 20 minutes and then scoop out the petals

5) Transfer the rose water to ice cube trays and put in the freezer!

When you're done you have a quick and easy way to spruce up your beauty routine. Just rub an ice cube on your face and feel refreshed!

If you feel like it you can save one of the roses, give it to someone you love.

May Flowers

Don't worry this won't be a long post. I just need to share what happened today.

You see, it's May 1st. Wouldn't you expect the whole April showers bring May flowers stuff?

Well guess what, ITS NOT HAPPENING.

What you expect to see on campus -

What you actually see on campus -

And what Holly and I did to make light of mother natures practical joke -

If I have to turn my graduation dress into a graduation parka i'm going to be very upset.
STAHHHP!!

Things that make me happy

Have you ever been stressed or confused and it just totally brings you down?

It's like you're brain is static on a TV.

Well I'd like to assume that I'm not the only one feeling this during these long winter months. So that's why I'm taking responsibility for my happiness and listing the 10 things that make me happier than anything else in the world.

I'm leaving out all of the obvious stuff - such as my family, boyfriend, friends, and dog. Not because they don't make me immensely happy, but because I feel they are obvious statements that need not to be addressed.

Here I go! The top 10 things that make me the happiest in the entire world. (In no particular order)

Little Talks by Of Monsters and Men
Call me crazy but I feel I have a special connection to this song. Not only do I never get sick of it, but every time I start to get anxious it always seems to play. Whether it's in the car, at a store or even just sitting at home. When this song comes on is when I tell myself "you'll be fine" and I actually believe it.

Chocolate. I'm a girl, need I explain myself?

Flowers. Whether they be in gardens or fresh bouquets I love them. My first few jobs were at flower shops so nothing makes me happier or more reminiscent than smelling and working with fresh flowers.

My heated blanket makes me cozy on the cold winter months when the Minnesotan seasonal depression starts to kick in.... Snow... *sigh*

And although my heated blanket suffices when I need it to, I would rather take a sunny day at the beach. It just melts away all and any problems.

The Londoner
Reading this makes me want to cook and have adventures.
She's my blog idol - I could re-read her posts hundreds of times.

Wine
This kind is my favorite of the moment.

Pinterest! I like it all the time but when I'm feeling down I especially like to sit in the kitchen with my roommate Holly and laugh into the wee hours of the morning.

This picture is going to double count because I took this while on a sister get-away weekend (which will be a separate blog soon). First favorite thing in this photo: Sister weekends. They make everything better - plain and simple. Second favorite: Pizza. It also makes everything better.

There's my pick-me-ups! I hope you enjoyed getting into my mind a little bit. You now know how to cheer me up with your weapon of choice.

As you read this I hope you realize that YOU are responsible for your own happiness.

You can make your life what you want it to be, all you have to do is take a little initiative and make things happen.

So think about it... what kinds of things make you undoubtedly happy?

Till next time

British Invasion

It's coming. And I'm so excited for it. Many of you don't know what I'm talking about right now but I hope that after this blog you will be just as excited as I am.

(From the Nasty Gal Spellbound lookbook)

My obsession with British fashion sites has hit an all-time high. Most recently it has been brought to my attention that TOPSHOP will now be offered in Nordstrom stores and online for us normal folk who don't live in big cities... or in Britain.

Now sadly I haven't been able to justify buying off of websites from across the pond because shipping is utterly expensive and I'm not sure a sweater is worth double the money because of shipping costs, even from within the US. It just seems ridiculous and is only done by me under special occasions.

So to get you a little more excited and obsessed about TOPSHOP coming (I don't want to be alone!) I'm going to show you a nice little video and list the other websites I am in love with.

Even though I can't buy off of them it doesn't mean I can't online window shop... right...? :)

Here's the video (It won't post in the blog for some reason)

TOPSHOP United States website
TOPSHOP at Nordstrom
Nasty Gal United States website
Missguided ships to the US but it's so expensive
ZARA United States website

I thought of posting my favorite pieces from each site... but then this would become a very long blog.

Take a look at these and let me know what you think

Music Monday: Frank Ocean

I would like to call attention to Frank Ocean's new album Channel ORANGE for many reasons.

1) The lyrics are amazing.

2) Once you get past the fact that it's not bumping dance music you realize that R&B isn't appreciated as much as other genres and it deserves a chance.

3) It's just cool.

So take a listen on Spotify, YouTube, or Itunes sometime. I am not a huge R&B fan but after listening to Sweet Life and Forest Gump I have learned to love the entire album. Start with those songs and see where it takes you.

Here's his video for Swim Good:

My wonderland is changing forms

It's true. Yesterday I moved back to university. *Sigh*

I'll make a longer blog about it later and maybe take some pictures of my room / favorite spots on campus to show you all. However, for now I'm going to sit here on pinterest and dream of the things I'd rather be doing. Classes start tomorrow so it's off to bed early as soon as I pick out my outfit for class.

Who am I kidding - I love school and I'm super excited for classes to start. But given the option I'd rather be doing these things and blogging about them. Weeeeeeeeeee.

Is anyone else starting school? What are you and aren't you looking forward to?

Music Spotlight: Lana Del Rey

I have a weird taste in music...

It's okay, I've learned to accept it. But I can't help but want to share my favorite music with you guys.

I'm not a new fan of Lana Del Rey, I've known about her music for a while but I faded away listening to top 40 music until I recently found my way back to the odd kids corner. It's an interesting and very unique sound which is like nothing I've heard before. You can listen to her album on Spotify or buy it on Itunes. You can also take a glance at her VEVO YouTube channel here.

Here's her music video for Blue Jeans - Let me know what you think!

Favorite things for Fall

Recently I've been thinking about my style. I envy those who are known for a signature style and I feel like I'm such a mix that I've never been able to define mine. So I cleaned out my closet and have decided to make room for more classy, girlish clothes with a little edge. Here's some of the things I am focusing on when I go shopping lately and some other random things I'm favoring right now and for fall.

Fashion

Blouses

Over sized sweaters

Ankle Booties

Nautical items, stripes, navy blue, red, ivory, blazers

Nude nail polish

Dainty gold jewelry and skulls on accessories

Random Items

Small notebooks to tote around in your purse

DIY craft ideas

Cooking and baking all sorts of yumtastic treats

Being happy

I'm sure I could make this blog a lot longer but these are the main things I'm favoring right now. I think I gave a pretty good base of what I like so if you can think of anything else I should keep my eye open for let me know!

Remember to smile today :)

Autumn in August

Imagine this. You're sitting in your house on a crisp, sunny day. You're reading a book and watching the colorful leaves fall off the trees outside. Candles are burning filling the air with amazing smells of cinnamon and pumpkin spice. And to top it all off you are drinking hot chocolate. It's officially fall.

Fall is by far my favorite season for many reasons. I know I'm no weather person but to anyone in the Midwest it's no secret that fall is exactly what it's felt like lately. My twitter has been blowing up with things like "Feels so crisp today!" and "Drinking a pumpkin spice late #welcomefall". The changing of the seasons are always exciting. But why exactly do I love fall? That's what I'm here to tell you.

After living in a state that has four very distinct seasons you start to realize that you get super excited for every new season. For example, us here in Minnesnowta embrace the snow and frostbite weather for the first 2 weeks of winter, but then we get awfully sick of the -20 degree weather and look forward to the point where things start to warm up. You get to pack up your parka, the snow melts, and then all of a sudden it's Spring. (I personally am not a fan of spring because I think things are just soggy and dirty from the build up of snow, but that's a matter of personal opinion) Then comes summer!

Ahh yes, summer. Everyone gets excited to tan, have bon fires, swim, and boat on the huge variety of lakes. But you just wait, about 6 weeks into the summer is when you start to see "The mosquito's are so bad!" "Sooo hot out! Give me winter!" and "I hate construction!"

Ugh... (rolls eyes)

I'm not saying that I'm innocent of complaining about construction and heat, but come on Minnesota. You hate it when it's cold, you hate it when it's warm. Make up your mind. That's why I have chosen Fall as my favorite season. Here's why:

  1. It's just crisp enough for you to comfortably bundle up, you even get thrown a warm day every once in a while
  2. Clothes are easier to style in the fall. You can also show off your warm cozy outfits without covering them up with layers of parka's
  3. Messy buns
  4. Pumpkin/Apple picking. Along with that - carving pumpkins and eating apple butter
  5. Sweaters, boots, and scarves
  6. Spice cake
  7. Movies and blankets
  8. Bon fires. They're just better in the fall
  9. So are S'mores
  10. The colors - orange, red, brown, yellow, purple
  11. The changing leaves are beautiful. Just yesterday on my way to work I saw 5 bright orange trees
  12. Halloween. I love Halloween! All the movies and costumes and candy and scary-ness
  13. Candles that smell like all different spices
  14. Turning your heat on for the first time around thanksgiving
  15. Gingerbread tea with milk and sugar

I could probably keep going all day but I think I've proven my point. If I could find a place to live that was fall weather for about nine months and only had one month of winter, summer, and spring I'd be a happy camper. If that place exists, let me know. I'll make you cupcakes.

What's your favorite season? Why?

A blog about... my other blog

I've had a tumblr since... well before tumblr was cool. However a year ago I sort of strayed away from it because all I was seeing were hipsters on my dashboard... and that's not really my groove thing.

That's why recently I've been working on it. I re-vamped my design and content and made it exactly how I want it.

Cue the satisfied grin.

I logically stopped following people that posted things I didn't like and now I am finally seeing what I am interested in. So take a look, I promise you won't be disappointed!

Friday Favorites

It's no secret to those who know me that I have a lot of favorite things. I remember one night me and my group of friends were 'studying' in the basement of my dorm last year. I say 'studying' like that because it consisted of candy, my friend showing us her dance routine, and my friend Emma and I making lists of our favorite things. So now I'm going to show a few of the things that I'm favoring right now such as food, fashion, music... etc.

Favorite trend: Arm Candy, more specifically watches, even more specifically Michael Kors watches.

Favorite food: Cherries

Favorite song: The Airborne Toxic Event - Changing

Favorite quote:

Favorite random: Doesn't that look perfect? Can you tell I'm daydreaming?
