Closing up shop

Hello all.. It's been a while. I haven't posted since April or something crazy like that. Lots has happened since the last time we spoke. I look forward to telling you all about it soon. Life is/was crazy and in the midst of this I lost sight of my blogging days. I love blogging, I always have. I have been a ghostly presence here popping in + out periodically and honestly I'm not sure if anyone is still checking back for new posts. However, if you are, please know that I have thought long and hard and have decided to try and make blogging a priority in my life again because, well... I quite enjoy it and I'm trying to do more of what I enjoy lately. Having a place to share my favorite things, the frequent antics that the universe throws my way, and everything else in between is nice. If nothing else just to share with my family and friends since many of them live in other parts of the country. BUT... (Ya knew that was coming, right? Haha) I have decided to put Abbey in Wonderland to rest and create a new blog. I feel I have outgrown the name of this blog (honestly I was never fully sold on it to begin with) and would like to just start from scratch. New name, new design, new content. I am just starting to brainstorm new names and concepts which is fun. So feel free to share any opinions on names or what I should focus more on with the new blog and I will post back with a re-direct once it has launched. So friends, thanks for coming to Wonderland with me... now lets go on a new adventure. :)

Earths Laughs ❁

Ever since I was 15 I've loved flowers. Everything about them.

I worked in a couple floral shops when I was young but have since moved onto other things.

But every once in a while I get an itch to arrange, even though my skills are rather rusty.

With my wedding coming in a few months I've decided to try and start regularly arranging flowers until my wedding in hopes of getting my edge back. Then maybe I can do my own centerpieces for my reception.

But what's the fun of having beautiful flowers if you don't share them.

I read a quote recently that said "Earth laughs in flowers."

So I've decided to start a 'segment' or something like that by sharing photos of my arrangements called Earths Laughs. Here's what I arranged for the first one...

So here's to the beginning of my flower journey. I don't know how often I'll be doing these but hopefully often. We'll see.

Hope you enjoy.

Till next time!

Ikea Weekend

So this weekend my sister and her friend came to visit for what I'm considering to be the first annual IKEA WEEKEND!

Thursday they drove the first half of their trip and I sat at home waiting anxiously for bed time. I felt like a 10 year old the day before a vacation just knowing that there's only one sleep between you and awesomeness. I calmed myself down with wine and RENT.

Britt and Britt (yes they're both named Brittany) are from Minot, ND so they don't have regular access to Ikea like Mitch and I do.

When they arrived Friday we instantly started talking about what we were going to do for the night. So what ended up happening?

We went to the old spaghetti factory. Classic.

It is delicious and foolproof. I dream of the cheese bread and the olive spread.

The Old Spaghetti Factory is a chain so you can easily see if they're by you by looking on their website.

After eating we decided to opt out of ice skating because of our workout earlier that day, so we stopped by a craft store on the way home and decided to watch movies, drink wine, and do arts and crafts instead.

I painted a big ol' R sparkly for our living room and a couple crosses to put by our doors.

Then before we knew it, it was IKEA TIME!!!

We woke up later than expected but after Mitch went on a french press and scone run we kicked our butts into gear.

The Britt's both have actual houses with their husbands they're trying to furnish rather than apartments so they had much larger lists and larger items than Mitch and I did. All we needed was 2 book shelves, TV stand, coffee table, and side table. Also a couple lamps and accessories.

After 4-5 hours in Ikea we had accomplished our missions and felt satisfied after BARELY fitting all of the Britts' stuff in their car to take back to Minot. We worked up quite the appetite so we scarfed down a couple hot dogs and went home... for about 5 minutes at least.

We may have made a jaunt up to the outlet mall... anyways...

After coming home and putting the rest of the furniture together we decided we deserved some beer and delivery chinese. Friends style.

So after cleaning up the apartment the next morning, this is what we ended up with.

We love our new little home, I think it's coming together nicely. I can see us starting a married life here until we get a down payment for a house. There are still some things we need to work on, but mostly just details now. Here's a glimpse of our little home:

(Ignore Mitch chillin' in the recliner...)

(Also ignore those ugly white chords, we haven't hidden them yet)

So there's a little piece of us. Hope you like it. I might be posting some DIY's as I personalize some stuff and work on the details.

I hope you had a good weekend!

Till next time,
xo

Cheers to a New Year

Happy New Year folks!

Can you believe it's already almost half way through January!? I can't.

As cliche as it sounds a new year can mean new beginnings. At least for me it has!

New Year.
New Hair color.
New Apartment.
New Job.
New Husband (eventually).

But luckily one thing that has stayed the same is my support system. Which was a jolting reality soon after New Years Eve.

You see, long story short, Mitch and I had an interesting and awful New Years Eve. I won't get into it but that is what prompted our change of apartments. Both of our families were beyond supportive in the aftermath and I'm not sure we could thank them enough.

So now to the point of this whole post, 5 things you should keep in mind in 2014:

1. Don't waste your time on negative people. If they aren't doing something positive in your life get rid of them. I know it can be hard but speaking from years of experience of only keeping positive people in my life it's totally worth it.

2. It's easier to have a positive attitude if you're honestly grateful for what you have. Whatever you need to do to remind yourself of how good you have it, do it.

3. Sometimes less is more. Keeping a simplistic mindset can not only be less stressful but it can also keep doors open for new adventures. And who doesn't want to have an adventure...?

4. Try not to overindulge. Honestly this one is mostly a reminder for myself... whoops! Moderation is key when it comes to almost anything - food, TV, shopping, drinks, pinterest...

5. Think of yourself first. Do things with passion. Love, be kind, have sparkle, and don't lose the idea of 'new year new start'. It doesn't need to be the new year to make a new start.

Till next time!
